HISTORIC PRESERVATION SPECIALIST - HISTORIC TAX CREDITS 

Post Oak Preservation Solutions is hiring a Historic Preservation Specialist. The successful candidate will join a thriving historic preservation consulting firm that specializes in historic tax credit consulting. Post Oak also works on National Register of Historic Places nominations, historic district design guidelines, historic resource surveys, preservation planning, materials conservation, and more. Presently, Post Oak is especially in need of an applicant who is adept at historic tax credit consultation and applications. The ideal candidate will have experience with historic tax credits or design review and consultation. We are looking for a self-motivated applicant who exhibits enthusiasm to learn and improve. The successful applicant will have demonstrable knowledge and experience in the field of historic preservation, a passion for the subject matter, and a willingness to work in and adapt to a fast-paced work environment. Post Oak will provide training to the successful candidate as needed. 

Location:
San Antonio area.  Staff work from home but meet up as needed for travel and co-working. Partners are located in San Antonio and Austin. We are in need of a staff member to support our projects in the San Antonio area. 

Schedule: 
This is a full-time (30-40hrs/week) position. There is an expectation of availability during regular business hours for most weekdays and availability for occasional overnight travel (reimbursed), though the Associate can generally set her/his own schedule. Regular staff meetings via Google Meet are also required. Post Oak values a flexible schedule and encourages staff to take time for exercise, personal time, and vacation.  

Pay & Benefits:
Pay will be hourly, ranging from $30-37, based on experience. This is an at-will contract position. Post Oak can provide health insurance benefits should the Associate work a minimum required hours (30hrs/wk). Post Oak offers paid holidays and paid flex days that can be used for sick days or vacation. Staff are paid twice monthly and are responsible for logging their own hours. 

Duties:
  • Take the lead (after receiving requisite training) on historic tax credit projects, including consultation with clients and architects, preparation of historic tax credit applications (Parts 1, 2, & 3), finding creative solutions, and communicating with local, state, and federal reviewers.
  • Archival research to support historic tax credit design decisions & applications
  • Occasional travel around Texas and the region, potential for overnight trips (food & lodging covered). 
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Graduate degree in historic preservation, public history, architecture, or closely-related field. Work experience may substitute for education where applicable.
  • Knowledge of Federal historic tax credit process and requirements
  • Knowledge of National Register criteria and Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation
  • Experience with archival researchAbility to travel, potentially overnight (no car required but must have a drivers’ license)
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and motivated worker, capable of working with little supervision and able to meet deadlines set by the partnersTeam player who thrives with collaboration
  • Access to a computer. Software will be purchased by Post Oak as needed. Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Adobe InDesign are essential. Familiarity with Illustrator and Photoshop preferred. CAD, Revit, and SketchUp skills are a bonus.
  • Site visits will include working in dilapidated and under-construction buildings. Work boots are required and the Associate must be able and willing to traverse these sites with reasonable accommodations.
