Preservationist/Community Outreach Manager
Historic Richmond

About Us
Historic Richmond is the only non-profit solely dedicated to preserving Richmond’s distinctive historic character, sparking revitalization, and championing our past and future architectural legacy.

Our office is located in the heart of downtown in an 1835 Greek Revival house. Our office is fast paced, high-energy, and no two days are ever the same. We are currently seeking a Preservationist to join our small, but extremely passionate team.

Job Description
The Community Outreach Manager fosters relationships with city and state government officials, businesses, contractors, and other community partners who are playing key roles in Richmond’s continued revitalization. This person will work to intentionally reach historically underrepresented/BIPOC groups and bring all Richmonders into preservation, as well as increase outreach efforts to support community engagement, strengthen preservation, and build collaborative partnerships throughout the city. This involves attending day and evening city committee and neighborhood/community meetings as needed, staying up-to-date with public and private projects related to Richmond’s historic built environment, and drafting advocacy letters.

As part of the Preservation team, this position will also assist on any preservation-related projects including rehabilitation, revitalization, and advocacy efforts as needed. Help coordinate and participate in Historic Richmond events.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will be passionate about preservation and familiar with Richmond and/or Virginias historic places.  A Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Urban Planning, or a related field is preferred but not required. Strong writing and oral communication skills are essential. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Possess a car, valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record.

Desired Traits
You will be able to work well in a fast paced and flexible team environment and have the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of preservation professionals and community members. We welcome applicants that bring new and different perspectives to the organization.  You are able to handle multiple projects in a hectic environment. You demonstrate a deep commitment to the Historic Richmond mission of preservation, neighborhood revitalization, and education. Some occasional nights and weekend are required.

Salary and Benefits
$45,000-$55,000 annually
Flexible work schedule and current eligibility for work-from-home part of each week. Access to group health, vision, and dental, and other employee benefit insurance policies, 403b plan. Generous time off.

To Apply
Please submit a cover letter and resume to info@historicrichmond.com by June 10, 2023. No calls please.
