Historic Richmond is the only non-profit solely dedicated to
preserving Richmond’s distinctive historic character, sparking revitalization,
and championing our past and future architectural legacy.
Our office is located in the heart of downtown in an 1835
Greek Revival house. Our office is fast paced, high-energy, and no two days are
ever the same. We are currently seeking a Preservationist to join our small,
but extremely passionate team.
Job Description
The Community Outreach Manager fosters relationships with
city and state government officials, businesses, contractors, and other
community partners who are playing key roles in Richmond’s continued
revitalization. This person will work to intentionally reach historically
underrepresented/BIPOC groups and bring all Richmonders into preservation, as
well as increase outreach efforts to support community engagement, strengthen
preservation, and build collaborative partnerships throughout the city. This
involves attending day and evening city committee and neighborhood/community
meetings as needed, staying up-to-date with public and private projects related
to Richmond’s historic built environment, and drafting advocacy letters.
As part of the Preservation team, this position will also
assist on any preservation-related projects including rehabilitation,
revitalization, and advocacy efforts as needed. Help coordinate and participate
in Historic Richmond events.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be passionate about
preservation and familiar with Richmond and/or Virginias historic places. A Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in
Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Urban Planning, or a related
field is preferred but not required. Strong writing and oral communication
skills are essential. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Outlook). Possess a car, valid driver’s license, and acceptable
driving record.

team environment and have the ability to communicate effectively with a wide
variety of preservation professionals and community members. We welcome
applicants that bring new and different perspectives to the organization. You are able to handle multiple projects in a
hectic environment. You demonstrate a deep commitment to the Historic Richmond
mission of preservation, neighborhood revitalization, and education. Some
occasional nights and weekend are required.
Salary and Benefits
$45,000-$55,000 annually
Flexible work schedule and current eligibility for work-from-home part of each
week. Access to group health, vision, and dental, and other employee benefit
insurance policies, 403b plan. Generous time off.
