Salary:  $55,589.79 – $91,091.34 Annually (Dependent on Qualifications)

Attendance
Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview
The Historic Preservation Officer will be responsible for enforcing the Historic Preservation Ordinance and providing staff assistance on policies, goals, and programs. The role will include giving notices, researching background material, preparing reports and recommendations, and receiving and preparing appeals. The Historic Preservation Officer will be responsible for defining and reviewing the issues pertaining to historic preservation as they relate to the City.


Responsibilities 
- Enforces the Historic Preservation Ordinance and drafts amendments to the ordinance as needed
- Enforces Demolition by Neglect provisions of the ordinance
- Implements the polices of the Historic Preservation Plan
- Serves as a liaison and translates goals and objectives
- Defines and reviews issues of historic preservation as they relate to the City
- Writes reports and recommendations in accordance with Historic Preservation Ordinance
- Makes presentations to various commissions and councils as needed
- Serves as a liaison to the Landmark Commission, and serves as liaison between the - Assistant Director of Development Services (and other City departments) and outside agencies and stakeholders regarding complex historic and design related issues; includes making presentations
- Prepares historic zoning cases for Landmark Commission and City Council while evaluating and making recommendations for changes to historic preservation zoned properties; and prepares Certificates of Appropriateness
- Maintains and updates the Historic Resource Survey
- Performs duties related to the City’s Certified Local Government Program, including preparing an annual report for the Texas Historical Commission, attending training, and ensuring the City remains in good standing with the Texas Historical Commission
- Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications 
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS)
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience
- A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered
AICP or AIA required within two (2) years of start date
- A valid driver's license is required. Successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.
