Mead & Hunt, Inc., is looking for a talented, collaborative, and motivated individuals, including recent or upcoming Spring 2023 graduates, to join our nationally recognized team of architectural historians and begin building a dynamic career in cultural resource consulting. Responsibilities for this position include identifying, documenting and evaluating a variety of historic resources; conducting research and field surveys, including photography of resources; preparing reports, including historic contexts, property descriptions, inventory forms, and National Register evaluations; and working with clients and project managers on Section 106 compliance, various cultural resource projects, and mitigation. Travel and a valid driver’s license are required for this position. This position will be based in a Mead & Hunt office (Minneapolis, MN; Madison, WI; Denver, CO; Sacramento, CA; Austin, TX; Tulsa, OK; or Raleigh, NC) to facilitate team collaboration and mentoring but there is opportunity for some amount of remote work. 

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in historic preservation or related field such as history, architectural history, or public history from an accredited four-year college or university or the ability to obtain the degree within five months of hire. 

The ideal candidate will have any/all of the following:

Master’s degree in historic preservation or related field (see above)
12 months of relevant experience (e.g., internships, volunteer work, etc.)

Experience preparing building descriptions and historic contexts

Experience conducting research and field surveys

Experience photographing buildings

Knowledge of architectural styles and ability to “read” a building to identify features, style and circa date of construction

Experience applying the National Register Criteria and preparing statements of significance

Ability to self-manage assigned tasks and schedules

Experience with outreach to traditionally underrepresented groups, neighborhoods, and communities and/or researching and evaluating associated historic resources

Spanish language proficiency
