FY25 Appropriations Process Gets Underway in Congress
Historic Preservation Blog from PreservationDirectory.com -

From Preservation Action:

The FY25 appropriations process is getting underway in the House and Senate. Hearings are scheduled in the House Appropriations Committee and Senate Appropriations Committee in the coming weeks to examine the FY25 budget request for the Department of Interior, with testimony from Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland. The Department of Interior budget includes National Park Service funding and other preservation priorities like the Historic Preservation Fund.

Meanwhile, the House Appropriations Committee is undergoing changes in leadership. Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) was officially confirmed as the new Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, replacing outgoing Chairman Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), who announced she would be stepping down from the role earlier this year. Additional changes to Subcommittee leadership and membership have been made with more changes expected in the coming days.

Preservation Action is urging Congress to support $225 million for the Historic Preservation Fund, including much-needed increases for State and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices and important competitive grants programs that are helping to preserve places that tell a more diverse and complete American story. We were disappointed to see that the Historic Preservation Fund receive a nearly $16 million cut in funding in FY24.

Check out our HPF Appropriations one-pager to learn more and urge your members of Congress to support robust funding for the HPF. Stay tuned for additional advocacy opportunities.
