Survey & National Register Manager, Ohio History Connection (Columbus, OH)

Position: Survey & National Register Manager
Status: Full time, Permanent
Salary: $54,000-60,000 annually

Position Summary:
Responsible for reviewing and processing Ohio Historic Inventory survey products and National Register of Historic Places nominations; advising and educating professionals and the public about the Ohio Historic Inventory and National Register programs.
Essential Functions:
- Review Ohio Historic Inventory survey forms and reports, including providing written guidance to applicants
- Review National Register Questionnaires, National Register of Historic Places nominations and related maps, photographs, floorplans, and supplemental materials, including providing written guidance to applicants; assist in fulfilling public notification requirements including public meetings
- Participate in the preparation and presentation of nominations at Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board meetings
- Create and present training and education for Ohio Historic Inventory and National Register topics, including written material, workshops, conferences, presentations, and training sessions
- Coordinate the Ohio Historic Inventory and National Register programs with other departments in the State Historic Preservation Office, other divisions of the Ohio History Connection, and government agencies as appropriate
- Communicate about the Ohio Historic Inventory and National Register programs including responding to public inquiries
- Assist in the development and review of Inventory & Registration Department special projects/programs
Required Education & Experience:
- Must meet the professional qualifications standards in 36 CFR 61, Appendix A: a graduate degree in history, architectural history, architecture, historical architecture, or a closely related field; or a bachelor's degree in history, architectural history, architecture, historical architecture, or closely related field and two years of work experience in a relevant discipline.
- Two additional years of work experience in a relevant discipline preferred.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Ability to apply National Register of Historic Places Criteria for evaluating significance and assessing historic integrity for historic properties
- Familiarity with Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation for Identification and Evaluation, as well as other federal historic preservation laws, regulations, and guidelines
- Proven experience in taking a program and/or project from concept to completion
- Able to use project management processes
- Able to create evaluations and use evaluation data for program improvement
- Ability to communicate with staff and the public, both orally and in writing, and on behalf of a program
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Ability to consider expenses and revenues in developing and managing program budgets
- Proficiency in various office software suites and virtual platforms, including Microsoft 365.
- Effective organizational skills, including attention to detail, prioritizing, and managing multiple tasks for yourself, and being accountable to the organization for said tasks.
Work Environment:
Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work. Work may be stressful at times. Requires ability to travel, sometimes with overnight stays. Work will involve site visits and attendance at public meetings. A valid driver's license is required.
