New Frontiers: The Sculpture of Rockefeller Center

December 18, 2024 |
On their way to see Santa in the 1930s, it’s possible those little ones and their parents passed through Rockefeller Center. They may not have beheld a gargantuan lighted tree, but they would have seen some newly installed streamlined sculpture. Progressive artists like Lee Lawrie and Rene Paul Chambellan created new ways of conceiving architectural sculpture which did much to enhance the exciting urban experience at Rockefeller Center. Avoid the crowds, pull up a comfy seat, and follow Anthony Pellino as he reveals this microcosm of Art Deco design at its most persuasive.
