President's Day at the Benjamin Harrison Home
February 16, 2009 |
Opening of the 2009 Exhibit "William Henry Harrison: Tippecanoe and History, Too" and "LIVE on Delaware St. 1898", a re-enactment tour of the historic home.
The 2009 exhibit will explore William Henry Harrison, born February 9, 1773, two years before the American Revolution. He would grow up to lead men in the Battle of Tippecanoe and the War of 1812, and lead citizens as Governor of the Indiana Territory. The exhibit will include letters, documents and other artifacts which provide insight into the man from 1790 to his death while in office in 1841. Among the documents are William Henry's appointment as Envoy to Columbia in 1828 signed by John Quincy Adams and Henry Clay; one of the last letters written by W.H. Harrison, and a piece of Captain Spier Spencer's flag from the Battle of Tippecanoe. |
