Preservation: The Ultimate in Recycling (30th Anniversary Celebration: An Evening with Richard Moe)

November 12, 2008

Help celebrate the Conservancy’s thirtieth anniversary at a talk and reception with Richard Moe, president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This special event at downtown's Los Angeles Center Studios is sponsored by Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP.

Through its Sustainability Initiative, the National Trust is focusing the nation’s attention on the importance of reusing existing buildings and reinvesting in older and historic communities as critical elements in combating climate change.

Recycling historic buildings makes as much sense as recycling newspapers, cans, or anything else. Mr. Moe will discuss how approaching existing buildings as renewable resources is not only environmentally logical and economically viable, but critical to achieving sustainability objectives.

With the increasing prevalence of green building construction, preservation and the reuse of existing buildings are often overlooked as a meaningful part of a comprehensive sustainability strategy. As we are encouraged to conserve resources and recycle items in our everyday lives, it only makes sense to do so with our buildings as well. Mr. Moe will demonstrate how approaching existing buildings as renewable resources is not only environmentally logical and economically viable, but critical to achieving sustainability objectives.

Los Angeles Center Studios located at 1201 West Fifth Street in downtown Los Angeles and is a complex that includes the 1958 Tower Building (formerly the Unocal Building). This modern gem was designed by Pereira & Luckman and has been restored to its original condition with black terrazzo floors, aluminum walls, and extensive use of glass.

Admission for the event and reception is $5; reservations are required. Free parking is provided on site; enter from Bixel Street.

We invite you to join us for this exciting event and hope you will stay for the reception that follows.

Time: 7 - 9 p.m.
