November 1, 2008 |
This one day workshop will explore New Jersey’s historic cemeteries from the 17th through 20th centuries. Students will learn to interpret and understand historic grave-markers and burial places. Participants will visit historically and culturally significant cemeteries from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries in Elizabeth, Linden and Newark. Preservation challenges unique to cemeteries will be examined and solutions discussed. Students will leave the course with a better understanding of New Jersey’s rich commemorative traditions and how these important historic sites may be preserved for the future.
