New Historic Districts – A Workshop for Portland Neighborhoods
November 1, 2008 |
Development pressures are endangering a number of historic Portland districts, leaving neighborhoods scrambling to protect their special sense of place. One method of addressing the teardown-and-replace impacts of modern development may be to nominate your neighborhood to the National Register of Historic Places. The Architectural Heritage Center and representatives from the State Historic Preservation Office will present a special program aimed at Portlanders who are interested in pursuing National Register Historic District nominations. Learn the basics of how to research and identify historic properties, how to organize local support for a historic district, when to involve historic preservation professionals in your project, and what successful strategies have been used by other organizations.
Seating is limited – pre-registration is required. Call 503-231-7264 or go online to www.VisitAHC.org.
