09SHPW41 Research, Management and Gardening Techniques for Your Historic Garden
May 2, 2009 |
(CONS) .6 CEUs. Historic gardens pose special problems for the preservationist, because plants grow and change. The course will cover how to maintain restored landscapes: planning and documenting, as well as hands-on gardening techniques. Students will learn how to create and implement a conservation plan. This is a special opportunity for students to learn at a historically important garden, the Cross Estate. The garden was developed in the 1920s and 30s by Julia Newbold Cross with input from local landscape architect, Martha Brookes Hutcheson. The garden is now owned by the National Park Service as part of Jockey Hollow and is a project of the Garden Conservancy.
