Cast-Iron Portland: Skidmore - Old Town Walking Tour
Thursday, August 20th Time: 6:30 pm

Tour begins at Skidmore Fountain - SW 1st and Ankeny
By popular demand we are offering an additional summer evening tour of the cast-iron buildings in Skidmore-Old Town. Come learn the history of the area in which Portland began. Get an up-close understanding of how architectural cast-iron was used throughout most of the last half of the 19th century. You’ll also gain insight into this historically important district as your tour guide describes the sense of architectural unity that once defined the area as well as the unfortunate loss of buildings demolished since the 1940s. We think you’ll find a new appreciation for this versatile material and a better understanding of Portland’s architectural heritage.
Skidmore-Old Town includes some of the city’s oldest standing buildings including the Dielschneider Building (1859), the New Market Theater (1872), and the Glisan Building (1889), one of the last cast-iron buildings constructed in Portland. Meet your tour guides at Skidmore Fountain - SW 1st and Ankeny.
