New Bedford Preservation Society Annual Meeting

October 8, 2009

The public is cordially invited to attend the New Bedford Preservation Society’s Annual Meeting on October 8, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. at the historic First Baptist Church, 149 William Street, New Bedford.  A program entitled “A Rising Tide: The Story of Urban Renewal and Destruction in New Bedford” will be presented by Spinner Publications immediately following the brief business meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Using historic photographs and film clips, Spinner will tell the story of New Bedford’s changing urban landscape over the last 45 years, from the building of the hurricane barrier, the destruction of urban renewal, to revitalization projects such as Fort Taber, the Industrial Park and the downtown. Still, the dismantling of New Bedford continues through demolition of mill buildings, schools, churches, fire stations and other landmarks.

Spinner Publications, Inc., is a New Bedford based, non-profit publishing house whose mission is to record and promote the history and culture of the cities and towns of southeastern New England.
