The National Register of Historic Places: A Most Effective Presentation Tool
October 31, 2009 |
In Portland, the most effective way to enhance the long-term preservation of our historic resources is through listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The process of nominating a structure to the National Register may seem daunting, but with the right guidance anyone can do the work. Ian Johnson of the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) will be here to discuss the National Register process, what it takes to complete a successful nomination, and the potential benefits.Staff from the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability will also be on hand to provide insight into what the National Register means in Portland. If you have ever considered nominating your home or perhaps another building to the National Register this is a must-attend program that will help make the process easier and help us all collectively preserve those historic places that matter most. This program is assisted by a Partners in the Field challenge grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
