National Charrette Institute's Planning Tool for Community Transformation

January 13-15, 2010

Start your New Year off right with the National Charrette Institute's certified training course at the University of Miami School of Architecture in January!

All participants completing the full course will receive a copy of The Charrette Handbook, recently published by APA Planners Press.

Course Overview:

This 3-day training is a fresh, new course that illustrates the capability of the NCI Charrette System for all aspects of community planning. Participants learn the practical NCI Charrette System skills, tools and techniques through new interactive, hands-on exercises practiced on four case study types:

  • Sustainable community planning
  • Regional/comprehensive planning
  • Transportation/infrastructure planning
  • Transit oriented development planning

This training combines our previous “Introduction to Dynamic Planning” and “Continuing Dynamic Planning” trainings. It is equivalent to the NCI Charrette Planner® Certificate.

This course is accredited with the AIA for 18 continuing education system (CES) units and with the AICP for 18 certification maintenance (CM) credits.

This training will be led by Bill Lennertz, NCI, and David Brain, New College of Florida.

Registration:

Registration This 3-day training costs $895.  Email nbixby@miami.edu for more information.  Credit card registration opens on December 8.To pay by check or money order, go to http://nuonline.arc.miami.edu/nci/nci10_registration.pdf

About The National Charrette Institute:

The National Charrette Institute (NCI) is a nonprofit educational institution. We teach the transformative process of Dynamic Planning to create healthy community plans.

We help people build community capacity for collaboration to create healthy community plans. We teach professionals and community leaders the art and science of Dynamic Planning, a holistic, collaborative planning process that harnesses the talents and energies of all interested parties to create and support a feasible plan. And we advance the fields of community planning and public involvement through research and publications.

Bill Lennertz, Steve Coyle and Aarin Lutzenhiser co-founded NCI in order to create the first professional education venue for the Charrette and the Dynamic Planning Process. Bill Lennertz, NCI’s Executive Director, is leading the organization in new research efforts, program development, and teaching methodologies. His experience as manager of more than 150 New Urbanist Charrettes is the foundation for the Dynamic Planning curriculum.
