Timber Framing for Historic Buildings: A Hands On Workshop
March 29 - April 9, 2010 |
While the course is open to all, this two-week workshop is intended to provide additional skills training for experienced contractors seeking expertise in techniques appropriate to historic structures. Subjects will include analysis and remedies for structural repairs to timber framed structures, the use of appropriate hand tools, an introduction to historic joinery, and a discussion of safe work practices. Students will receive a combination of shop instruction and fieldwork on a ca. 1790-1810 timber framed building surviving in Maysville, Kentucky. Our visiting instructor this year is Rudy Christian. Mr. Christian is the Executive Director of the nationwide non-profit Preservation Trades Network, and brings over 25 years of experience in timber framing to share. Learn how to bring your projects into compliance with the Sect. Of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Rehabilitation. Improve your company’s ability to market to clients with tax-credit projects, historic districts, and fine historic homes.
