Landmarks of the Future: Preserving Resources of the Recent Past
May 11, 2010 |
Greece Historical Society presents LANDMARKS OF THE FUTURE: Preserving Resources of the Recent Past by Katie Eggers Comeau. Should strip malls, diners, or ranch houses be preserved? Many people believe buildings constructed after World War II are not old enough or "pretty" enough to be worth saving. Yet as the 1960's turn 50, preservationist and architectural historians are rethinking buildings from the mid-20th century - and in some places, are fighting to save buildings they never wanted to see built in the first place. We'll look at local and national examples of notable 20th century buildings and preservation controversies.
Katie Eggers Comeau is the architectural historian at Bero Architecture PLLC, a Rochester architecture firm specializing in historic preservation. Prior to joining the staff at Bero, Katie was the director of preservation services at the Landmark Society of Western New York, where she worked for over 8 years. A native of the Rochester area, Katie has a master's degree in historic preservation from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree in humanities from Yale University.
