On June 2, 2010, preservationists will convene for the annual historic preservation conference in Elizabeth, New Jersey, hosted by Union County College. This year’s conference explores the unique opportunities for sustaining our heritage, and demonstrates how the shared vision for a sustainable future is integrated with our appreciation for the past.
Plenary speakers Robert Ivy, Editor in Chief of Architectural Record, and Nancy D. Kolb, former CEO of the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, will lead an insightful discussion about using the tangible remains of our past to create a viable vision for a sustainable future. Session topics, tours and workshops highlight planning and preservation tools, interpretation and heritage tourism, restoration and archaeology. The ever popular and relevant Donovan Rypkema, from Place Economics, a Washington, D.C.-based real estate and economic development consulting firm, will conclude the conference with his predictions on the future sustainability of preservation. A bookstore and exhibitor room will complement the festivities. The annual event culminates with a reception in Elizabeth’s newly restored Ritz Theatre.
