SOHO's Rancho to Ranch House Weekend

May 18-20, 2007
SOHO's Rancho to Ranch House Weekend
This will be the largest single event for preservation enthusiasts and historic homeowners in Southern California. It will be held the third weekend in May in recognition of National Preservation Month. Our keynote speaker is Donovan Rypkema, a superstar in the historic preservation world; Mr. Rypkema will speak on the economics and sustainability of historic preservation.

Visitors will find home products, expert advice and information. For the historic homeowner historically accurate products and services can be found and for those with new homes that want to add the character of an older home this will be the single most useful resource available to them in making that happen.

Tours and lectures will be focused on what today's homeowners are interested in: historic preservation, restoration, renovation, urban planning, sustainable design and quality lifestyles.

All architectural styles will be represented throughout the weekend. There will be smaller home tours focusing on Arts and Crafts homes and Victorians, bus tours of Bungalow Courts and Fort Rosecrans, and much more. The vendor Show & Sale will also have a services and resources element attached to it so that you can find the professionals and craftsmen, resources and products to work on your home along with lectures, architectural tours and home tours. There will be plenty of educational opportunities as well with panel topics ranging from the do's and don'ts of home restoration and the difference between restoration, renovation, rehabilitation and remodeling.

Along with the show, lectures, historic home tour,  and bus tours, there will be an ephemera exhibition highlighting our region's architecture spanning 200 years and a vintage trailer show will include tours of their interiors, making it a historic home tour on wheels. We first did this three years ago and it was one of the most talked about and visited aspects of that show. We are bringing it back this year with exceptional examples from Airstreams to Shastas.

An opening night catered reception is combined with an early bird preview of the Show & Sale, and is a festive event that sets the stage for the weekend to come. Saturday will be a full program of tours, lectures and exhibitions culminating in the evening's People in Preservation Awards. For twenty-five years this event has recognized a broad and diverse group of individuals and agencies that have made significant contributions to the field of historic, cultural and landscape preservation. This important event will be the social event of the weekend. This is all capped off with the Historic Home Tour on Sunday featuring homes of all styles.
