12th Annual National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers

August 9-13, 2010

On behalf of the board of directors and members of the National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (NATHPO), we are honored to invite you to attend and participate in the 12th Annual NATHPO Meeting. For the week of August 9, 2010, the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin will host our annual meeting, as well as related events and training sessions. The Tribe’s Radisson Hotel & Conference Center Green Bay will be the main meeting location and they have graciously offered a discounted room rate for NATHPO participants.

Native Youth Today: This year’s meeting theme is, “Respecting our Heritage, Protecting our Quality of Life, and Strengthening our Future.” Our children and young people of today are the future cultural leaders of tomorrow. Our decision to highlight Native youth – in addition to our annual discussions on current cultural preservation issues – is to encourage Native communities to continue preserving, protecting, and rejuvenating their respective languages and traditional lifestyles and unique cultures. We will be showcasing Native youth programs and hope that Native youth from across the country will be able to join us.

We are currently accepting proposals for presentations and we encourage you to submit ideas and panel suggestions that illustrate the needs and concerns for your constituency. In addition to sessions that highlight Native youth, there will be presenters on a variety of other topics, such as current events in tribal historic preservation, tribal museums and cultural centers, tribal consultation, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and information and updates on other timely cultural preservation issues in Indian country.
