Historic Gardens & Landscapes: A Mobile Workshop
January 28, 2011 |
Historic landscapes and gardens are integral parts of many historic sites and tell the story of the people and events associated with that property. Participants will take part in a mobile workshop in the gardens of the Edison & Ford Winter Estates and the historic Caretaker’s House. The gardens include more that 1700 plants that continue Thomas Edison’s botanical laboratory, research gardens and interest in useful plants. Speakers will demonstrate how to choose appropriate plants for historic landscapes and gardens, how to catalogue plant specimens. Attendees will see first-hand how the Estates landscape has been restored and a master site plan developed based on the Cultural Landscape Report. A guest speaker from Bonnet House Museum and Gardens will also be on hand to discuss how to create a living collections policy for your historic garden and landscape.
