The Colorado Arts & Crafts Society’s annual Craftsman/Bungalow Show, Sale & Workshops is returning to its first home: the newly restored and renovated Boettcher Mansion on top of Lookout Mountain in Golden, CO. Having been under construction intermittently for the past two years during a $3.1 million Capital Improvement Plan, the Mansion will reopen its doors to the public just in time for this event. The dates and times are Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, 2007 from 10 AM-4 PM.
Built in 1917 as Charles Boettcher’s summer home and seasonal hunting lodge, the Mansion was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Donated in 1968 to Jefferson County by a Boettcher descendant, the 10,000-square-foot stone, stucco & timber estate is nestled into the 110-acre Lookout Mountain Nature Preserve maintained by the County’s Open Space Division. Considered a well preserved example of Craftsman-style architecture and adaptive reuse, the Mansion currently serves as a cultural center and special events venue, as well as the Society’s headquarters.
Once again, the Show & Sale will feature national, regional and local exhibitors and their collections of vintage and revival furniture, rugs, textiles, decorative arts and other items associated with the Arts & Crafts era of American history. This fascinating movement, which influenced architecture, interior design and social consciousness at the turn of the century, is enjoying a major revival more than 100 years after its original inception.
