San Francisco History Expo

February 12-13, 2011

On Saturday and Sunday, February 12 and 13, SFMHS will bring together more than 20 San Francisco neighborhood historical associations to create mini-museums in the Old Mint, showcasing their unique contributions to our City. Through photographs, videos and story-telling, each will show how the past has shaped its, and our, future.

In addition, special art will be on display including large acrylic-on-wood panels by Frank Alan Zimmerman, depicting San Francisco in the 1850s.

Also on display will be the quilt made by members of the SFMHS and the San Francisco Quilters Guild. The quilt's many panels feature San Francisco landmarks plus a variety of notable San Franciscans and significant local events.

Among the many organizations scheduled to take part are the Western Neighborhoods Project, Potrero Hill History Project, Bernal History Project, San Francisco History Association, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, History Center of the San Francisco Public Library, Rick Prelinger Library and Archives, GLBT Historical Society, San Francisco State University Labor Archives and Research Center, Visitacion Valley History Project, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, Market Street Railway Company, California Historical Society, Shaping San Francisco/Foundsf.org., Chinese Historical Society, Irish Historical Society, Fisherman's Wharf Historical Association, Presidio Historical Association, Coil Library and Museum of Freemasonry, Arcadia Books and Guardians of the City (a combined historical association of the San Francisco Police, Fire and Sheriff's Departments).

Hours for the San Francisco History Project are 11 to 4 PM each day.
