Bay Bridge Construction Tour
March 12, 2011 |
On Saturday, March 12, SFMHS members will get a return visit to the construction site with architect Donald MacDonald of MacDonald Architects of San Francisco. MacDonald is a world-renowned bridge expert who provided the design services for the eastern span and hosted members on an initial visit to the site in September of 2009.
As he did on the previous tour, MacDonald will point out the design that constitute a major work of art. SFMHS members will be able to see how the design elements will work with the man-made and natural environment. He will also describe how the tower has created the architectural vocabulary of the whole bridge.
Members will board a Red and White boat at Gate E, Pier 1, at 1:30 p.m. for the tour which will last approximately three hours. Please plan to arrive by 1 p.m. Return is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served on board.
Cost for the Bay Bridge tour is $65 for SFMHS members; $75 non-members. Tickets can be purchased online by selecting the button below, or by calling 415-537-1105, ext 100, or emailing rsvp@sfhistory.org.
