Telling Stories: "Branding" & "History" in Portland's Japantown/Chinatown National Historic District

Jackie Peterson Loomis, Ph.D., professor of history at Washington State University - Vancouver will present a lecture describing the interplay between ethnic group and neighborhood efforts to preserve a multicultural landscape in “Telling Stories.” Key issues she will discuss are historic preservation of the built environment and the authority and ownership of cultural memory. Learn about the dialogue, which can be contentious, between neighborhoods and ethnic groups, and public agencies – all who want to preserve the historic district, while redesigning and redefining in an urban renewal district. |
