Historic Hyde Park opens its doors for the Ninth Eighth Annual Home Tour on March 5, 2011. The theme of this year's event is "Then and Now." The tour, sponsored by the Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association (HHPNA), will feature nine private homes located in the southern area of the Neighborhood, including a side-tour featuring an amazing backyard garden. We will be showcasing both new construction and original homes which have been carefully restored throughout the past century. The Goal of the 2011 Home Tour is to show how our neighborhood has evolved, and to share how homeowners can adapt historic structures to 21st century living.
The 2011 Home Tour begins at the parking lot at Bern's Steak House at 1208 South Howard Avenue, Tampa. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., the tour runs from 9:30 a.m. Last tickets will be sold at 2:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $20. We will also be featuring advanced ticket sales at area locations (cash or check only) to be determined. Tickets will be $25 if purchased the day of the tour.
Advance ticket holders will need to exchange their tickets or vouchers for a Tour-ID wrist band, that all walkers will need to enter the homes, at the Bern's Steak House parking lot location the day of the tour. There, you will also receive a booklet with information about the homes and map for the walking tour.
A portion of the proceeds from the tour will be allocated to various HHPNA neighborhood causes, including the enhancement of our cultural assets and architectural treasures. Our signature project will be the restoration of the original "school house" doors of the Old Hyde Park Art Center.
