Regional Preservation Trades Workshop 2007
Scheduled June 2nd and 3rd at Casey Farm in Saunderstown, RI
More than twenty masters of the traditional building trades will be available to answer questions and to demonstrate their crafts on Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 3rd at Casey Farm in Saunderstown, Rhode Island. The event, organized by the Preservation Trades Network (PTN) and co-sponsored by Historic New England, Heritage Restoration, Inc and Preserve Rhode Island will feature “hands on” demonstrations and lectures.The workshop will provide knowledge and skill exchanges for people of all backgrounds interested in preserving and maintaining historic buildings.
PTN, the Preservation Trades Network, is a non profit, 501 c 3 dedicated to sharing the skills and knowledge of all of the trades employed in preserving the built environment. IPTW, the International Preservation Trades Workshop, is the only annual event in North America which brings the foremost practitioners of the trades together in a single venue. PTN has held over 12 events over 10 years, from Hagerstown, MD, to Brooklyn, NY, to New Orleans, LA. As a registered provider of AIA/CES continuing education credits, individual workshop sessions will qualify for AIA continuing education credits.
Demonstrations will include wood window and door restoration, historic paints and finishes, plaster repair, timber framing, masonry repair, cemetery preservation, traditional wood carving, blacksmithing, limewash techniques, traditional boat building, wood and slate roofing, coppersmiths, dry stone walling and more.
On-line pre-registration is encouraged and is available at discounted rates. On-site registration on the day of the event is also available. Catered lunches will be offered for pre-registered attendees and a limited number of lunches will be available for on-site registrants. Fees range from $125 - $150 per person, for both days. A one day, on-site registration is just $75 per person. The event will be held rain or shine.
