Historic Property Management

September 20-22, 2011

Seminar Overview: The physical treatment of a structure is the bottom line in keeping a building standing and in good repair. This nuts-and-bolts seminar addresses how to read your historic structure, search for solutions, and then care for the building envelope. Topics discussed include how to meet basic maintenance requirements; how to replace HVAC, fire, and security systems; and the role of pest management. Learn the fundamentals of hiring contractors, training custodial personnel, and understanding the role of other professionals who work in, on, and around the building. Review the significance of maintenance and disaster plans.

Participants: Maintenance supervisors, facilities and project managers, historic site administrators, preservation architects.

Continuing Education Credits: AIA members will receive 6 learning units each day for designated seminars that meet the criteria for programs in the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System.

Seminar Location, Hours, and Hotels: Confirmation of registration is sent out to registered participants one month prior to the seminar date. The confirmation includes the seminar location, hours, and a list of conveniently located hotels. Seminars generally are held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is recommended at least 6 weeks prior to the seminar to secure a place and to avoid cancellations due to low enrollment.

Cost: $600 (6-week advance registration); $650 (regular registration)

Customized/On-Site Training: NPI also offers this seminar as customized, on-site training to meet specific organizational needs. Seminars can be tailored to create single- or multiple-day workshops at a location and time convenient to the sponsor. Contact NPI at 703.765.0100 or info@npi.org for further information.
