The Greening of Historic Properties National Summit
October 30, 2006 |
The Green Building Alliance and the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation are coordinating with the National Trust for Historic Preservation to host a National Summit on the greening of historic properties immediately preceding the National Trust for Historic Preservation annual conference.
The Summit will be October 30th at the Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. followed by a Town Meeting 5:30-7:30 p.m. The preservation conference opens the next day, October 31 and will run through November 5.
The Summit will feature experts in the disciplines of both green building and historic preservation in a discussion regarding existing LEED certification requirements as they relate to historic preservation. There is no charge to participate in the workshops, but we do ask that you register by clicking here.
There has been active dialogue between the two constituencies, and a great deal of online electronic discussion. This however, will be the first time a National Summit will formalize the discussion.
The National Trust Conference offers the unique opportunity in Pittsburgh for the lead organization in green building, the Green Building Alliance, to work with one of the foremost historic preservation organizations, the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation.
Following the Summit on Monday, October 30th, a town meeting will held that evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center to share with the public the issues raised during the day-long work session.
Throughout the preservation conference, attendees of the conference will be asked to weigh in on the issues and offer their opinions. Their comments will be solicited at a Booth for the “Greening of Historic Properties” in the exhibit hall of the Hilton Hotel. The booth will be open for public comment on November 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The information will be synthesized and disseminated at GreenBuild the United States Green Building Council’s annual conference, in Denver, Colorado, which follows the preservation conference later in November.
Major sponsors of the National Summit include The Heinz Endowments, Massaro Corporation, and the Roy A. Hunt Foundation.
