Creating the Future: The 35th Annual Conference & Theatre Tour

July 13-16, 2011

Shifting demographics, emerging technologies and new ways of collaborating create challenges and opportunities for historic theatres.  The future is taking shape in America’s communities. Is your historic theatre prepared to take its rightful place as both catalyst and engine for change?

For more than three decades, League members and their historic theatres have been at the forefront in stimulating downtown redevelopment, building community identity and heritage, promoting pride of place and anchoring creative communities.  Despite challenges from an ongoing global recession, enterprising League members are taking control of their futures, pushing ahead with plans for expanding their facilities, programming and operations.

Proctors, the New York Capitol Region’s premier arts and entertainment complex and enduring historic jewel of downtown Schenectady (pop. 61,000), hosts the League’s 2011 annual conference.  Unlike previous League conferences in large cities with multiple historic theatres, this year we’ll come together in a community transformed through the efforts of single historic theatre. Join colleagues in learning through the experience of Proctors’ renovation and aggressive expansion plans, core elements in a community redevelopment effort that has revitalized Schenectady’s central business district. Visit a community revived, celebrate a great success story and develop strategies for creating your organization’s future.
