9/11 Monuments and America's Collective Memory
September 7, 2011 |
To the landscape of losss and violence in America, which includes battlefields and memorials, we add now the sites of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. From lower Manhattan and the Pentagon to rural Pennsylvania, these locations resist traditional narratives of violence and loss. This talk, presented by Amanda Badgett, art history professor at Napa Valley College, will explore efforts at monumentalizing grief post/9/11 as part of the nation's continuously shifting sense of itself and its past.
