Baseball by the Bay — From the PCL to the MLB

July 12, 2007

Before the Giants, there were the Seals and before them, the Stars. San Francisco's first Pacific Coast League (PCL) game was held on March 26, 1903, at Recreation Park at 8th and Harrison Streets, as the San Francisco Stars took on the Portlands. The Stars were later renamed the San Francisco Seals. Learn about the PCL and the long rivalry between the Seals and the Oakland Oaks as Mark Macrae, Director of the Pacific Coast League Historical Society brings together a panel of former PCL players and media to wax nostalgic about a more innocent time in Bay Area baseball.

The evening will conclude with a presentation by a San Francisco Giants representative who will discuss the 2007 Major League Baseball All-Star Game FanFest in San Francisco in July.

Please join us at 7 PM for a reception featuring historic memorabilia from the Pacific Coast League.

Be sure to ask about tickets for SFMHS Night at AT&T Park Monday, June 25th, for the game between the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres. All tickets sold through us benefit the SFMHS. Tickets will be sold during the June program.

Parking is available on site for $4.00 with validation. Entrance to the parking garage is on California Street, west of the main entrance.

MUNI: 1, 2, 3, 4, 38, 43 bus lines serve this building or call 673-MUNI for more information.
