6th Annual Katrina Artistically Revisited

New Orleans, Louisiana: The 6th Annual Katrina Artistically Revisited special commemorative event will be held for the sixth consecutive year at The Theatres at Canal Place in downtown New Orleans. Traditionally presented on the anniversary eve of Katrina, "near midnight" every August 28th since Katrina, this grassroots event is produced annually by Patty Lee and Armand St. Martin. The 2011 sponsors are The Theatres at Canal Place, George Solomon, Vivian and Richard Cahn, The New Orleans Musicians Foundation, Octavia Books, Richard C. Colton, Jr., Lamb Ministries, Patty Lee Records, John C. Wade, II., Soldiers of Love, and World10.
A homegrown effort that is always Free to the community, this respectful yearly event was created "to remember those who perished and to honor those who survived, and also to applaud those who have helped bring New Orleans back," say the Producers. All the artistically-Katrina-themed presentations in this special program are offered in a meaningful heartfelt way, and include award-winning film shorts and documentary trailers, as well as original songs and live music, poetry, a book excerpt, first responder oral stories, books, photographs, and more. The participants are local New Orleans and South Louisiana artists and citizens.
From 10 pm - 11 pm, in the Theatre Lobby, Tom Lowenburg of Octavia Books will offer nationally published Katrina books for purchase. Katrina photographs by Dennis Couvillion, Ellis Jorbert, III., and various photographers will be displayed. Chef Adolfo Garcia's Gusto Cafe and Bar will be open for fancy small foods and drinks to purchase, while guests mingle and share their Katrina stories with each other if they so choose.
At approximately 11 pm, the mixed-media program will commence inside the Main Theatre. Live music will be performed by local songwriters who have penned their original Katrina songs. Music entertainment will feature rockabilly legend, Jay Chevalier ("Come Back to Louisiana", "A Cajun Toast"), folk musician Steve Wulff of DeSoto Street Band ("My Town"), jazz orchestra leader, Orange Kellin (solo clarinetist), acoustic rock, Lloyd's Apts ("Empty"), and Louisiana roots-rocker pianoman, Armand St. Martin ("Orleans Lullaby", "Creole Good-By").
Other Katrina-related artistic approaches are slated to include St. Martin as Emcee, a special appearance by survivor Robert L. Greene, Sr., poetry by Stephen Chesnut in French and English ("Evacuation", "Apres le Deluge"), a book excerpt by author Bert Bartlett ("Tale of Two Seasons: A Katrina and A Superbowl"), first responder oral stories by Gisela Chevalier and Chaplain Hy McEnery, and introductions of the local artists in attendance.
On the big screen, Matt Faust's award-winning film short, "Home", will be a highlight. Faust's "Home" was the First Place Winner for Best Documentary Film Short at The Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
Another highlighted movie Trailer, for the feature film, "Forgotten on the Bayou," will be screened. This film by Steven Scaffidi with Rockey Vacarrella has won six awards, including awards at both the Newport Film Festival and the Houston International Film Festival.
The Trailer, for the movie, "Katrina's Children," which was Executive Produced by Richard C. Colton, Jr. will also be featured. Highlighted will be a children's photo-DVD project, Executive Produced by Joanna Rosenthal and Ariya Martin of the New Orleans Kids Camera Project, which has been an important ongoing part of the event since the beginning and will be accompanied by live music by Armand St. Martin and Orange Kellin. "Transformations" by Libba McEnery, a video-short for Lamb Ministries will be screened, along with designer maven Chris Madden and Patrick Madden's "Project Katrina", a DVD-short with soundtrack songs by Armand St. Martin.
Since the inception of this special Katrina event, award-winning photographer Dennis Couvillion's poignant 20-minute bxw film, "Stillness. . . the Aftermath of Katrina," has always served as the yearly centerpiece-film of the event, with an original film score by Dean Dupuy and a short composition by Ramsey McClean, and with the film score recorded, mixed and produced by Armand St. Martin.
Artistic photographs as the backdrop to the live music and first responder stories will be by Donn Young, former official photographer for the Port of New Orleans, by Mark Sindler, staff photographer for the Louisiana State Museum, and founder of this event, Patty Lee.

Katrina Artistically Revisited is personally dedicated every year by the Producers in Memory of Patty Lee St. Martin's Mother, Nona D. Lee, 88 and Armand St. Martin's Uncle, William Ulmer, 99 who, like so many, survived Katrina but not the Aftermath.
The Producers would also like to give pause in Memory of Robert L. Greene, Sr.'s Granddaughter, Shanai Greene, 4 and his Mother, Joyce H. Greene, 73 who, like so many, did not survive Katrina.
