Preservation Planning and Policy Development for Historic Roads

Seminar Overview: Explore the current tools and techniques used for the identification, preservation, and management of historic roads. As an emerging area of historic preservation, planning and policy for historic roads presents new challenges for the historic preservation professional. Learn how to apply transportation policies to historic roads, balance safety and function with historic preservation objectives, and build awareness and new constituencies for the legacy of highway design in the United States.
Faculty: Dan Marriott, principal and founder of Paul Daniel Marriott + Associates, a historic and scenic road preservation planning firm specializing in linear corridor studies, regional planning strategies and analysis; author of Saving Historic Roads: Design and Policy Guidelines
Participants: Federal, state, and local managers and cultural resource and environmental consultants preparing compliance documents for federal DOT actions under Section 4(f), NEPA, and/or NHPA and working with state and local regulations.
Continuing Education Credits: ASLA members will receive 6 learning units each day for designated seminars that meet the criteria for programs in the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System.
Seminar Location, Hours, and Hotels: Confirmation of registration is sent out to registered participants one month prior to the seminar date. The confirmation includes the seminar location, hours, and a list of conveniently located hotels. Seminars generally are held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is recommended at least 6 weeks prior to the seminar to secure a place and to avoid cancellations due to low enrollment.

Rate for 3 days including Mid-20th-Century Buildings: $600 (6-week advance registration); $650 (regular registration)
