Cemetery Preservation

Seminar Overview: Learn how to begin a cemetery preservation or restoration project and how to help ensure that sound choices are made to avoid harming what you seek to protect. Discussions focus on current issues in cemetery preservation, such as recording and documenting cemeteries and graveyards, undertaking preservation efforts, and exploring conservation techniques and issues.
Faculty:
Debi Hacker, conservation administrator, Chicora Foundation, Inc., specializing in cemetery landscapes, including assessments and maintenance recommendations, and has experience conducting detailed recordation of both African-American and Euro-American cemeteries throughout the Southeast
Michael Trinkley, Ph.D., director, Chicora Foundation, Inc., and a stone conservator specializing in cemetery preservation, including assessments, treatments, and long-range planning, and has extensive experience working with African-American and Euro-American cemeteries in the Southeast
Participants: Curators and managers of historic cemeteries; preservation consultants
Continuing Education Credits: ASLA members will receive 6 learning units each day for designated seminars that meet the criteria for programs in the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System.
Seminar Location, Hours, and Hotels: Confirmation of registration is sent out to registered participants one month prior to the seminar date. The confirmation includes the seminar location, hours, and a list of conveniently located hotels. Seminars generally are held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is recommended at least 6 weeks prior to the seminar to secure a place and to avoid cancellations due to low enrollment.

National Endowment for the Arts scholarships may be available through NPI for this seminar
