Personal History & Genealogy: Celebrating Family

The Oregon Historical Society will host a Grandparents Day forum on how to preserve family stories for future generations 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.
“Personal History & Genealogy: Celebrating Family” will present a range of ideas for recording life stories and researching family history.
This year, the Genealogy Forum of Oregon joins the OHS and the Association of Personal Historians (APH). With regular museum admission, visitors can browse books, audio, video and artwork recounting personal and family histories, hear educational lectures, tour the OHS Research Library, take home personal history interview tips and chat with expert personal historians and genealogists.

Veterans of any war or conflict are invited to record their first-person military accounts, free of charge. As part of the Library of Congress’s Veterans History Project (www.loc.gov/vets), professional personal historians will conduct private 30 to 45-minute interviews.
The resulting audio recordings will be donated to the Library of Congress and veterans can be mailed a free CD copy.Preregistered veterans receive free OHS admission and a guaranteed interview time.
