Docomomo Tour Day Maine: Modernism in Coastal Maine

September 23-25, 2011

Modernism in Coastal Maine
Camden, Deer Isle, Falmouth Foreside, ME
Docomomo US/New England
September 23-25, 2011 Weekend Trip

New England will be conducting a tour three significant modern sites in Coastal Maine on the week-end of September 23-25. The first stop will be a house designed in 1940 by pioneering New England modernist Nathanial Saltonstall in Camden on Saturday the 24th, followed by a visit to the Haystack Mountain School on Deer Isle by Edward Larrabee Barnes. On Sunday we will visit the 1952 Payson House in Falmouth Foreside by Serge Chermayeff. Travel arrangements are up to the tour participants, but space may be available in cars for those in need of transportation. A group of tour participants presently intends to depart the Boston area late Friday afternoon and stay overnight in Camden, though driving up early Saturday morning is also an option. We will overnight Saturday on Deer isle or in Camden (participant’s choice, there is limited accommodation available on Deer Isle), and stop in Falmouth Foreside on the way back to the Boston area. Participation in the tour is free, but all travel, food, and lodging accommodations are to be covered by tour goers.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED
FREE, Participants will cover all travel, food, and lodging costs.
