Sharing Stories, Learning Lessons: Truth and Triumph in Historic Preservation
September 27-29, 2012 |
Preservation Alliance of West Virginia (PAWV) 2012 Historic Preservation Conference: Sharing Stories, Learning Lessons: Truth & Triumph in Historic Preservation. The conference will be held during September 27 – 29, 2012, throughout Jefferson County where we will highlight several historic sites including the Claymont Mansion near Charles Town, Shepherdstown downtown historic district, and Harpers Ferry National Park.
Each PAWV conference showcases a different community and provides programming focused around a specific preservation theme. This year’s theme focuses on sharing successful strategies in historic preservation with educational sessions detailing the hard facts that historic preservation is beneficial to West Virginia communities. We aim to concentrate on the positive aspects all the while debunking distorting and misleading myths about preservation that pervade West Virginia. Participants will experience a varied program of education, local tours, and hospitality. Educational sessions will feature exciting speakers discussing topics ranging from preservation trades techniques to advocacy and economics. Sessions will also include heritage development and methods for strengthening organizational capacity. Edward McMahon from the Urban Land Institute will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Friday evening awards banquet.
