BGT deTour of the Kentucky Theatre
August 1, 2012 |
On August 1st at 5:30 pm, BGT deTours will get a behind-the-scenes (literally) tour of the Kentucky Theater, 214 East Main Street. The deTour will be followed by an onsite Afterhour.
On October 4, 1922, the Kentucky Theater opened, featuring "a short comedic parody of Valentino’s The Sheik, a newsreel, and Norma Talmadge in a historical romance entitled The Eternal Flame." Later this year, the Kentucky will celebrate its 90th birthday--after having celebrated the 20-year mark of its 1991-92 restoration.
In addition to being the first theater in Lexington, the Kentucky was also one of the first air-conditioned public buildings in town (and will provide a nice respite from the heat for our August deTour).
On Wednesdays, the Kentucky Theater has its Summer Classic Film series. Notorius will be shown following the BGT deTour. Tickets to the film must be purchased. Visit www.showclix.com/events/11447 to view their classic film series and to purchase tickets ahead of time.
