Unbarred: Carbon, WY
September 29, 2012 |
Join Alliance for Historic Wyoming board members and Nancy Anderson, director of the Hanna Basin Museum, for a field trip to the town and cemetery of Carbon, WY. Located between Medicine Bow and Hanna in southeast WY, Carbon was the first coal mining town in Wyoming and was founded in 1868.
This is a great opportunity to visit this off-the-beaten-path ghost town and learn more about its history. Additionally, retired University Wyoming geology professor Dr. Jay Lillegraven will be joining us for a discussion about “preservation politics” in relation to the DKRW coal-to-gas plant, which may be built in the area.
Participants should meet at the Hanna Basin Museum at 10:00 -- we will caravan to Carbon. The roads are unpaved, but in good condition. Please bring water, snacks and clothes for varying weather conditions. This event free, although donations are great appreciated and will be shared with the Hanna Basin Museum.
