10am: "Moldings & Classical Interiors: Changing Interior Spaces Using Classical Design" CEU
A broad overview that explains the classical use of moldings and historical reference to styles. You will learn to:
  • Describe and differentiate between Georgian, Federal and Colonial Revival millwork
  • Design more historically accurate moldings, mantels, doors and millwork
  • Explain how changing values and production capabilities altered architectural detailing over time
  • Compare and contrast different orders, moldings and arrangement of architectural millwork in American interiors

1pm: "Classical Interiors 2.0: Advanced"
The proper use of moldings and architectural elements on the interior of a building has been largely forgotten. This class goes past why classical design works and gives concrete lessons you can apply to your next project. Practical work to include:
  • How to design mantelsHow to build up door headers
  • The best way to build up crown molding
  • How to establish hierarchy
  • Proper methods of ornamentation
