Call for Papers - Disaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery for Cultural Resources
The Association for Preservation Technology DC chapter invites the submission of presentations for Thursday, April 25 and Friday April 26, 2013 to be held at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial (WIMSA) at Arlington National Cemetery.  

The focus of the Symposium will be emergency preparedness, disaster response, and recovery for cultural resources.   Papers may address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

· Proposals on best practices in response and recovery of historic resources;

· Assessment and treatment of damaged buildings including flood- and fire damaged buildings;

· Disaster assistance tips and regulatory considerations/process when working with
historic properties;

· Use of software and applications;

· Historic building cases studies; and

· Lessons learned. 

Prospective speakers may submit abstracts on any topic or case study related to this theme. 

Presentations that discuss case studies are encouraged to demonstrate how the study contributes knowledge to the field of historic preservation and the conference theme by providing in-depth analysis of what was learned in the course of the study or project.

To propose a presentation, please submit a typewritten abstract of no more than 400 words, in English, and provide the following information: title of presentation, name of speaker(s), occupation, business mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address, text of abstract, and a brief resume for all participating speakers. Please indicate your preferred presentation length – typical presentation length will be 20 minutes, though 40 minutes may be considered, and additional time will be allowed for questions.

Additional Information and Speaker Responsibilities. Please read the following guidelines carefully:
  • Each presenter will receive a complimentary registration for the symposium and 1 year membership in APTDC. Speakers will not be paid. Travel and additional expenses are the responsibility of the speaker.  
  • If your abstract is selected, you will be notified by January 18, 2013.
  • Presenters are required to use PowerPoint technology for their presentations. PowerPoint presentation must be submitted to APT DC at the specified deadline for presentation organization and ease of operation/efficiency. 
  • Speakers not meeting key deadlines may be removed from the program.
  • Abstracts may be posted on the APT DC website.
  • Speakers must indicate in abstract if they are willing to be videotaped during presentation and have videotaped presentation posted on APT DC website for attendee use.
