Bailey Island Maine Tile Workshop

October 1-7, 2007

“Carving the handmade relief tile/Raku tile firing/Tile setting 101”

Eric Rattan and Chris Matti will offer a five-day intensive workshop for wood carved, clay imprinted, and raku fired relief tiles. Participants will learn the fundamentals of carving wood for the purpose of imprinting clay tiles. Casting plaster molds will also be included. Each participant will carve and imprint a clay tile(s) to be glazed and fired at the workshop. Eric and Chris are both professional ceramists renowned for their work in ceramic sculpture, functional pottery, and handmade tile art. The five-day intensive workshop includes lodging (double occupancy) and transportation to and from the Portland, ME airport and Bailey Island for attendees arriving before 5:00 p.m. on October 1, and departing after 9:00 a.m. on October 7. An extra (no charge) stay October 7 and 8 at Bailey Island is included if attendees wish to tour the islands or take a van day trip to view the works of Andrew Wyeth and others at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, ME. Tuition for the five-day, or extended stay workshop is $675. Reduced tuition available for campers is $500. This workshop also includes the fundamentals of professionally setting mosaics and tiles.
