The Buck Starts Here - Heritage Ohio Fundraising Workshop

February 25-26, 2013
The Buck Starts Here - Heritage Ohio Fundraising Workshop
Heritage Ohio, with the generous support of the Jeffris Foundation, will host a fundraising workshop in Columbus February 25-26.

The Buck Starts Here will be a two-day interactive workshop with experts in the field focusing on the following topics designed to move your projects forward in 2013.

Board Development Speaker: Janus Small has built the consulting firm of Janus Small Associates on her deep and solid experience as a leader of nonprofit community organizations with Northeast Ohio clients such as the Chagrin foundation for Arts and Culture, Cleveland Film Society, Ohio Arts Council, Cuyahoga Valley, National Park Association, Cleveland Foundation, Jewish Community Center, Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, Cleveland Neighborhood Development Coalition, Greater Cleveland Partnership, City of Bedford, Ohio Community Development Finance fund and Dean Brook Watershed Partnership.  Janus shares her knowledge and abilities not only with her clients, but also with the next generation or administrators by teaching in the nonprofit management program at Case Western Reserve University’s Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations. She previously taught for 10 years at Baldwin-Wallace College.

Case Statements Speaker: Lori Hunter Overmeyer, CFRE, has more than 25 years of professional fund-raising experience with a focus on the arts, and social and human service organizations. As a development director, Lori acquired an expertise in implementing annual and capital fund-raising plans, strategic analysis, major donor solicitation, and establishing development procedures to maximize effective operations and communications. A consultant with Goettler Associates, Inc. since 2005, she has lent her knowledge of marketing research, proposal writing, personal donor cultivation, recognition strategies and volunteer leadership to some of the Columbus, Ohio’s most successful capital campaigns, many of which exceeded their original fund-raising goal by millions of dollars.

Annual Campaign Speaker: Ken Frisch, ACFRE, is the Director of Development for Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, and received the Community Counseling Service (CCS) Award for Outstanding Fundraising Professional presented by AFP in 2009. Frisch is one of just 84 fundraisers in the world to have earned the Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE) credential, and served on the committee that recently revised the ACFRE written exam.   He is also just one of 125 fundraisers in the world to be certified as a Master Teacher through AFP’s Faculty Training Academy.  Hospice of Northwest Ohio hired Frisch in 2003 1o raise the final S6.4 million of a $9 million capital campaign. Upon doing so successfully, he was hired to create the organization’s first comprehensive fundraising plan, including the introduction of employee giving programs and a planned giving initiative, as well as increasing board member involvement in development activities. He now raises S2 million annually to support hospice patient and family care, education and community outreach.

Stewardship Speaker: J. Kay Coughlin joined the Office of University Advancement at Capital University as a Major Gift Officer in November, 2011. Prior to that, she led the Office of Stewardship at Oberlin College, where she was responsible for overseeing all major fund and gift agreements, reporting to donors annually on 400 funds, gift acknowledgements, and divisional paper records. Kay’s background in donor relations and non-profit management is reflected in her approach to development in a university setting, focusing on making the most of limited resources.

We are pleased to be partnering with the Ohio Historical Society, Ohio Local History Alliance, and Goettler and Associates in planning this workshop.
