What is The Summer of Love Treasure Hunt?
The San Francisco City Guides Summer of Love Treasure Hunt is an urban scavenger hunt where you and your team uncover spaces, places, and objects that celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love and recall the people and events that shaped the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. Spend the afternoon scouring gardens, streets, and alleyways solving a series of puzzles that test your powers of deduction, observation and wit. Retrace the steps of the Grateful Dead, find out how Golden Gate Park was transformed from sand dunes to lush gardens to a hippie hang out, and meet costumed characters from the early and recent past of the Haight.
Why should I attend?
TO HAVE FUN – You and your team will have a ball!
TO LEARN – Uncover the past of this iconic neighborhood and its famous denizens
TO INTERACT – Great event to get to know your team, meet new friends and talk to characters from Haight history
TO SUPPORT A GREAT CAUSE – Your entry fee will benefit San Francisco City Guides, the non-profit project of the Public Library that leads free walking tours of San Francisco all year around.
How do you play?
You and your team will be given a San Francisco street map and a Clue Book. The Clue Book is not a trivia quiz or a history exam. Every puzzle can be solved by paying careful attention to your map and surroundings. Solving a clue will lead you to a target location. There, you will find a “trophy” word or phrase to be entered on your answer sheet. All clues can be found within a short walk of public transportation.
Once your answer sheet is complete your team will head back to Kezar Pavilion. The team that returns first with proof of having correctly solved the most puzzles is crowned San Francisco City Guides Summer of Love Champion!
