Dressing the Garden: Creating the Perfect Garden for a Vintage Home

Denise Williams, Master Gardener and Plant Care Professional at Highland Gardens will provide the background you'll need to make informed landscaping choices to enhance your Historic Harrisburg property. You'll hear why it's important to pay attention to the historical aspects of your garden design. Basics that apply to any garden will then be presented as a foundation. Specific design considerations will be discussed including characteristics of the time period you're trying to reflect, how to be consistent with the architectural style and features of your property, and how it might be appropriate to use a particular garden style (e.g. Cottage Gardens) to help guide plant choices. Some examples of plant combinations will be presented. Finally, lists will be provided for good historical seed and plant sources as well as book and website references for further information.
