Resilient Masonry Buildings
March 21, 2013 |
The Historic Preservation League of Oregon (HPLO) is coming to Jackson County on Thursday March 21st to hold a special reception and educational program at the old Jackson County Courthouse. Built in 1883, the venerable Courthouse building was transferred from County to City ownership in November, allowing for an opportunity to chart a new future for this significant National Historic Landmark property. In conjunction with the City of Jacksonville, the HPLO is pleased to invite all friends of Southern Oregon’s historic buildings to visit the Courthouse, discuss plans for its future, and hear a special presentation on policy changes that would make historic masonry buildings—like the Courthouse—more structurally and economically resilient for future generations.
The program on ‘Resilient Masonry Buildings’ summarizes a year’s worth of research and citizen input on how Oregonians can best preserve and reuse our state’s historic brick, stone, and concrete buildings. Fifty people attended an input workshop in Jacksonville in the spring of 2012. Responses gathered at that workshop serve as a basis for the content that will be presented on March 21.
5pm reception, 6pm program. The event is free and open to the public.
