Sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration’sNational Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Program, and cosponsored by the National Park Service’s Historic American Engineering Record and the USDA Forest Service’s Forest Products Laboratory, this event is being held ten years after the First National Covered Bridges Conference in Burlington, Vermont. This year’s conference offers a diverse program touching on a variety of themes from rehabilitation process, strategies and guidelines, documentation, analysis, protection, new construction methods and materials, and international covered bridges.
Held in the heart of the Midwest in historic downtown Dayton, Ohio, participants will also experience timber framing demonstrations, attend a reception at the historic Engineers Club of Dayton, and enjoy dinner at thePreble County Historical Society. There will also be tours of Dayton’s aviation heritage and of several historic and newly constructed covered bridges. The conference will offer the opportunity for exchange between a diverse audience of civil engineers, public transportation officials, academics, trades people, historians, architects, international scholars, and covered bridge enthusiasts.
