World Famous Architect Preston Scott Cohen to Give Gruss Master Architect Lecture

April 12, 2013

The eighth Gruss Master Architect Lecture will feature internationally renowned architect Preston Scott Cohen.  The lecture will be held at The Colony Hotel at 155 Hammon Avenue in Palm Beach on Friday, April 12th at 2pm.

The lecture series was established in 2004 through the generous sponsorship of long-time Foundation members and benefactors, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Gruss.  The series had previously brought such world renowned architects to Palm Beach as Hugh Newell Jacobsen, Robert A. M. Stern, Jaquelin Robertson, and Richard Meier.

Preston Scott Cohen is the founder and principal of Preston Scott Cohen, Inc. He is also the Chair of the Department of Architecture and the Gerald M. McCue Professor of Architecture at Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Combining the use of the most advanced digital modeling technologies with a fascination for 17th century descriptive geometry, he uses familiar forms distorted by oblique projections and similar devices to create complex designs that challenge our preconceptions about the nature of order in architecture.

His work has been widely published and exhibited and is in numerous collections including The Museum of Modern Art, The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and the Fogg Museum of Art.

His work has been the subject of numerous theoretical assessments by renowned critics and historians including Nicolai Ouroussoff, Sylvia Lavin, Antoine Picon, Michael Hays, Nikolaus Kuhnert, Terry Riley, Robert Somol, Hashim Sarkis and Rafael Moneo. He was the Frank Gehry International Chair at the University of Toronto in 2004 and the Perloff Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2002.
